The Cinema of Karnataka (Kannada: ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಿನಿಮಾ), sometimes colloquially referred to as Sandalwood, encompasses movies made in the Indian state of Karnataka based in Bangalore (Bengaluru). Most of the movies are made in the Kannada language, with a handful of them in Konkani or Tulu. Today more than 100 films are made every year. 1931 saw the emergence of talking pictures in the regional languages of South India with the release of en:Kalidas (film), and in 1934, the first "talky" in Kannada, en:Sati Sulochana.
