English: The Codex Mendoza — an Aztec codex created in the 1540s in New Spain, two decades after the 1521 Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. Commissioned by the King of Spain, it describes pre-conquest Aztec society, in Aztec pictograms and Spanish text.
