Conrad von Soest (ca. 1360-1420) was a prominent panel painter in Dortmund, Westphalia. His graceful linear compositions and rich patterning epitomize the late Gothic International Style. His major works include the altarpieces of Niederwildungen, 1403 and Dortmund, 1420. He was the master of a successful workshop and his followers include the Veronica Master. He is believed to have worked as a journeyman in Paris and Burgundy in the 1380's in the workshops of Jaquemart di Hesdin, the Parement Master and possibly Andre Beauneveu.(see Brigitte Corley, Conrad von Soest, 1986)
