Volume I (plate 1 - 96) of:

Each print measures approximately 9 inches wide by 11 inches tall. Copper plate engravings by Gerrit Wartenaar Lambertz. Hand-coloring. Parallel text in Dutch and French.

Most of the specimens used by Cramer and Stoll to describe over 1,650 new butterfly species are lost or destroyed so the illustations have a special scientific status as 'iconotypes'.
