English: The Cuerpo de Policía Nacional was created by the Spanish Police Law (1978) as a national police force, military organised but integrated in the Dirección General de la Policía (National Police Directorate), the national civil organization charged with the security in Spain, along with the Dirección General de la Guardia Civil.

Its antecessor was the Fuerza de Policía Armada (Armed Police Force) until 1978.

In 1986 (Security Forces Law) was merged with the Cuerpo Superior de Policía to create the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía, with civil structure and organization.
