English: The Damba festival is an annual celebration at the mostly Islamic communities in the North of Ghana, that’s meaning in the Upper West Region, Upper East Region and Northern Region of Ghana. The name of this event is "Damba" in the Dagbani language (at the Dagomba), “Damma” in the Mampruli language (at the Mamprusi) and “Jingbenti” in the Waali language (in the region around of Wa). The event commemorates the birth and naming of the prophet Muhammad and is identical to the Islamic main celebration in the "Rabia al-Awwal" lunar phase (the 3rd moon month). Beside of the religious contents is the main content of this event in Ghana a glorification of the chieftaincy.
