Eduardo De Filippo, also known simply as Eduardo (born 24 May 1900 in Naples — died 31 October 1984 in Rome) was an Italian playwright, stage actor, screenwriter, author and poet; his production spans more than 50 years and as actor he was on stage since childhood until early 1980s. Widely regarded as one of the most influential playwrights of the 20th century, his works were translated and played also out of Italy. In 1981 he was appointed life senator of the Italian Republic by then President Sandro Pertini.
