English: Edzell Castle is a 16th century tower house and courtyard castle. It replaced an older motte-and-bailey castle standing nearby. It was abandoned in the 18th century. It is said to be haunted. The early 17th century garden is unique in Scotland and includes carvings of the planetary deities, the liberal arts, and the cardinal virtues. The castle is owned by Historic Scotland, and is open to the public all year round.
