English: El Panecillo was built in 1975 by Spanish sculptor Agustín de la Herrán Matorras, stands as Ecuador’s tallest monument. This 41-meter aluminum figure, inspired by Bernardo de Legarda’s 1734 Virgin, invites visitors inside with a narrow staircase winds through its hollow core to a platform at her feet. The Colonial Center of Quito has numerous 425 year old Churches and Convents.
