English: The Euterpe was a four-masted steel barque built in 1884 by Barrow Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, Barrow-in-Furness for B. Wencke Söhne, Hamburg. Dimensions: 290.6 × 42.6 × 23.8 ft (88.6 × 13 × 7.3 m) and tonnage: 2146 GRT, 2069 NRT and loading capacity 3200 tons. A cargo of coal exploded 1902 some 50 miles WNW off Lizard Point and ripped up the maindeck and killed seven people of the starboard watch. The survivors were saved by the steamer Rydallhall.[1][2]
