A fjord is a dead-ended inlet, often long and narrow.
A strait on the contrary is an oceanic form connecting two other large bodies of water; often it is an ocean channel between two land masses/islands.
Water bodies called fjørður (fjords) in the Faroe Islands are often open on both sides and as such they are straits, not fjords. So if you do not find the name of a fjord under this category, you may find it under the category: Straits of the Faroe Islands
