-1497: commissioned by Bartolommeo Bartoli (or di Bartolo), Bishop of Cagli, confessor of Alexander VI, [✝1497], probably, gift from him for a chapel in the Dominican church in San Gimignano near Siena 1796/97: nationalized by the French State 1796/97: acquired by Dr. Buzzi Soon thereafter acquired by Prince Alexander Mikhailovich Galitzin [1772-1821], Russian ambassador to Rome 1821: inherited by Theodore Alexandrovich Galitzin, his son, Palazzo Galitzin, Rome, (✝ 1848) from Prince Alexander Mikhailovich Galitzin [1772-1821] 1848: inherited by Sergei Mikhailovich Galitzin [1843-1915], his nephew, Palazzo Galitzin, Rome from Theodore Alexandrovich Galitzin, from 1865 displayed at the Museum of Western European Painting of Prince S.M. Galitzin, Moscow 1886: purchased by Imperial Hermitage Gallery, Saint Petersburg from Galitzin collection April 1931: purchased by Andrew W. Mellon, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C, at Matthiesen Gallery, Berlin; P. & D. Colnaghi & Co., London and New York; and M. Knoedler & Co., New York and London 5 June 1931: ownership transferred to A.W. Mellon Educational and Charitable Trust, Pittsburgh, by Andrew W. Mellon, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C. |
