Deutsch: Genf ist die Hauptstadt des Kantons Genf in der Schweiz. Genf ist die zweitgrösste Stadt der Schweiz. Sie liegt am südwestlichen Rand der französischsprachigen Schweiz (Romandie) am Ausfluss der Rhone aus dem Genfersee. Genf ist Sitz vieler internationaler Organisationen, u. a. UNO, CERN, IKRK, WHO, IAO, ITU, WIPO, WMO, WOSM und des Hochkommissariats für Flüchtlinge der Vereinten Nationen UNHCR.
English: Geneva is the second most populous city in Switzerland (after Zürich), and is the most populous city of Romandy (the French-speaking part of Switzerland). It is situated where Lake Geneva (French Lac Léman) flows into the Rhône River, and is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva. The population within the city limits is 185,526 (2004) and that of the metropolitan area — which extends into France and Vaud — is about 750,000. Geneva is widely regarded as a global city, mainly due to the presence of numerous international organizations, including the European headquarters of the United Nations.

Son aire urbaine forme une agglomération transfrontalière, nommée Bassin franco-valdo-genevois, qui s'étend sur le canton de Vaud et les départements français de l'Ain et de la Haute-Savoie, pour un total d'environ 760 000 habitants.
