Català: Gregori V de Constantinoble (nat al voltant del 1745 a Dimitsana (Arcàdia); † al 22 d'abril del 1821 a Constantinoble) fou patriarca ecumènic de Constantinoble en els anys 1797 a 1798, 1806 a 1808 i 1818 a 1821. Morí d'una mort violenta.

Deutsch: Angelopoulos erhielt in Athos eine wissenschaftliche Ausbildung und zog sich dann einige Jahre als Eremit zurück. Im Jahr 1784 stieg er zum Erzbischof von Smyrna auf. Am 1. Mai 1797 wurde er gewählter ökumenischer Patriarch von Konstantinopel. Nach dem Ägyptenfeldzug Napoléon Bonapartes wurde im Osmanischen Reich gemutmaßt, dass die Griechen mit den Franzosen insgeheim im Bündnis stünden. Dies ließ einige Türken den Kopf Gregors fordern. Mit Billigung des Sultans Selim III. wich das Kirchenoberhaupt auf den Berg Athos aus, bis sich die Wogen geglättet hatten und er seine Amtsgeschäfte wieder ausüben konnte.

Ελληνικά: Ο Γρηγόριος Ε΄ διετέλεσε τρεις φορές Πατριάρχης Κωνσταντινούπολης, (1797-1802, 1806-1808 και 1818-1821). Θεωρείται εθνομάρτυρας από την Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία, η οποια τον τιμά ως άγιο στις 10 Απριλίου.

English: Gregory V was Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from 1797 to 1798, from 1806 to 1808 and from 1818 to 1821. He was responsible for much restoration work to the Patriarchal Cathedral of St George, which had been badly damaged by fire in 1738. At the onset of the Turkish Massacres, as Ethnarch of the Greek Millet, Gregory V was blamed by Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II for his inability to suppress the Greek uprising. He was taken out of the Patriarchal Cathedral on Easter Sunday, 1821, directly after celebrating the solemn Easter Liturgy, and hanged (in full Patriarchal vestments) for three days from the main gate of the Patriarchate compound by order of the Sultan; his body was then taken down and delivered to a squad of Jews, who dragged it through the streets and finally threw it into the Bosphorus.. The body was later recovered by Greek sailors and was eventually enshrined in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens.

Français : Grégoire V (en grec Γρηγόριος Ε'), né en 1746 dans une famille pauvre de Dimitsana dans le Péloponnèse, se nommait Georgios Angelopoulos dans le civil. Il mourut à 75 ans pendu le 10 avril 1821 à la porte du Patriarcat de Constantinople en représailles contre le soulèvement grec commencé le 25 mars 1821 (qu'il avait pourtant désapprouvé).
