English: Hoofddorp (literally translated: Main Village) is the main town (or better: village) of the Haarlemmermeer municipality in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. In 2008 the population was 72.083. The town was founded in 1853, immediately after the Haarlemmermeer had been drained. Hooffdorp is situated close to the main Dutch airport Schiphol. Until 1975 Hoofddorp was quiet a small village, but after that it grew fast.
