In computer science, an interpreter is a computer program that directly executes, i.e. performs, instructions written in a programming or scripting language, without previously batch-compiling them into machine language. See en:Interpreter (computing) for details.

Programming languages that are commonly interpreted rather than batch-compiled should go here as subcategories.

For persons who translate expressions in a source language into expressions with a comparable meaning in a target language, see Category:Interpreters and en:Language interpretation.
For people performing previously composed music, see (e.g.) Category:Music by interpreter and en:Interpretation (music).
