Prior to her appointment, she served as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Bakkt, a subsidiary of commodity and financial service provider Intercontinental Exchange, and the co-owner of the Atlanta Dream in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Loeffler was selected as the successor to incumbent Senator Johnny Isakson on December 4, 2019, and was sworn into the Senate on January 6, 2020, at 5 pm.
