English: This media gallery is part of the "Kurgans in Serbia" project of the Wikipedia in Serbian language. The aim of the project is to identify, locate and document the physically remaining earth mounds in Serbia (Kurgans, Tumuli, Tells, etc.). This historical heritage of general and international importance is formally not protected in Serbia, although the age of earth mounds ranges from some thousand to 800 years. The number of nearly thousand known kurgans and tumuli on the territory of Serbia represent a significant archaeological heritage, which in most part is not adequately protected from destruction and oblivion. Some of them preserved an exceptional botanical value (genetically intact remnant vegetation) on their surface, which led to official recognition and some legal act recently.
