A letter sheet is a sheet of paper that becomes postal stationery when it is imprinted with an indicia indicating the amount of postage at the domestic first-class rate. In the US, letter sheets were first made available during the civil war in 1861. Their popularity was such that they were discontinued until the U.S. Grant letter sheets were issued from 1886 to 1894. Modern letter sheets are usually in the form of aerograms.
