A light box can be an illuminated sign, with light bulbs contained within a translucent (usually plastic) container, used commonly for business names on storefronts. See also lightbox, a device used by photographers to produce a white background effect, and light tables, horizontal display devices for providing backlighting, often used in architecture and graphic design.

Other types of light boxes are used to treat circadian rhythm disorders, some psychiatric disorders, and some skin disorders.
