English: Madangopal jiu temple is a Hindu terracotta temple in the village of Mellak, near the village of Samta in the Howrah district of the Indian state of West Bengal. Locally known as Gopaler Mondir (literally, "the temple of Gopala") the temple is terracotta ornamented and built in the ath-chala style, referring tot he eight slopes of its roof. The presiding deity of the temple is Radha and Madangopal jiu. It was built in the 17th-century CE by Mukundaprasad Roychoudhury, a member of the then Roychowdhury Zamindars of Mellak. Then the Rupnarayan River used to flow closer to the temple, unlike today. Hindu festivals including Dol yatra and Janmashtami are celebrated at the temple.
