Latina: Madonna lactans
English: Madonna lactans, translatable into English as "Nursing Madonna" or "Our Lady of the Milk" , was a popular depiction of the Tuscan art school in the Medieval and Renaissance period, showing the Virgin Mother breastfeeding the baby Jesus. Depictions show the naked breast, sometimes even with milk dripping out. This style of depiction started disappearing in the later Renaissance.
