English: Hals was commissioned to paint this civic guard portrait in 1633. By 1636 the work was still unfinished and the commission went to Codde, who finished it a year later. Hals did the left side of the painting, up to the man in light clothes in the centre, as well as many of the hands and faces. The rest is by Codde.
