English: The mandylion (from Byzantine Greek μανδύλιον (mandúlion), μανδίλιον (mandílion), μαντίλιον (mantílion), or μανδήλη ‎(mandḗlē, "cloth, hand towel, handkerchief, tablecloth"); derived from Latin mantēlium, a variation of mantēle or mantēlum ("hand towel, napkin"), probably from manus ("hand") + tergere ("to rub, wipe, wipe off, clean, cleanse")), also known as the Image of Edessa, is a much revered Eastern Orthodox version of the Veil of Veronica.
