The Manhattan Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street at the intersection of Chambers Street, in the Civic Center district of Manhattan, New York City is a 40-story building built to accommodate increased governmental space demands after the 1898 consolidation of the city's five boroughs. Built in 1907-1914 and designed by William M. Kendall of McKim, Mead and White in the Beaux-Arts style, the building was the first to incorporate a New York City Subway station into its base. It is one of the largest governmental buildings in the world.
