Marsica is a geographical and cultural area of western Abruzzo, central Italy. Though its largest core encompasses 37 municipalities in the province of L’Aquila (amongst which the most important is Avezzano) it spans from the Eastern Lazio to the northern Molise. The area takes its name from the Marsi, an Italic people extinct in the 2nd century C.E.
