Va ser projectat el 1873 per l'arquitecte municipal Antoni Rovira i Trias, i construït entre 1874 i 1878 pel mestre d'obres Josep Fontserè i Mestre i l'enginyer Josep Cornet i Mas. Des de l'any 2013 a l'interior es poden visitar les restes arqueològiques.
English: "Mercat del Born" is one of the most important markets built in Barcelona. It was designed in 1873 by Antoni Rovira i Trias, and was built from 1874 to 1878 by the architect Josep Fontserè i Mestre and the engineer Josep Cornet i Mas. Served as a central market until 1971, when it was closed. Reopened in 2013 as a free-entrance museum. The interior is an archaeological site displaying the foundations of 17th century buildings.
