Category:Metacategories not fully sorted into flat categories

This category will hold meta categories when Template:ByCat can't match one or both metacat sort criteria with existing flat categories. (There can be up to two sort criteria.)

Possible actions for meta categories appearing here are:

• If the sort criterion is invalid, remove it or resolve it some other way. This would include:

• A misspelled sort criterion: fix the spelling
• A sort criterion given with the first letter capitalized when it is not a proper noun. Change it to lower case: most sort criteria need to be given in lower case.

• Do nothing. Not everything needs a flat list category, and we don't need a flat list category for everything.
• Find a ByCat entry that can be used for each unmatched sort criterion, and have the unmatched sort criterion added into that ByCat entry. For example, the ByCat entry for "year" includes year of photographing, year of establishment, and others.
• If no existing ByCat entries can be used, or if creating a new one would be better than using an existing one, have an entry added to Template:ByCat. When that is done, create the new flat list category.
• Incorrectly named category: Since the MetaCat criterion is supposed to match text in the category name, the category might not be named correctly. For example, a category called "Cities by country and size" might need to be named either "Cities by country by size" or "Cities by size by country," depending on what the subcategories are.

Note: Template:ByCat is protected, so any changes to it must be requested at Template talk:ByCat unless you have the ability to edit it yourself.

Examples:

• {{MetaCat|xyz}} The sort criterion here is "xyz". It is unclear what this criterion means, so no change to Template:ByCat is needed.
• {{MetaCat|pen name}}. The sort criterion here is "pen name". There is a ByCat entry for "name" that this could be added to. The metacat template parameter in the metacategory should still be specified as "pen name".
• {{MetaCat|year|my new sort criterion}}. This will appear in the by-year flat list category because one of the sort criteria is "year". It will also appear in this category because "my new sort criterion" is not a recognized sort criterion.
• A category called "Widgets by country" has the code {{MetaCat|widgets|country}} or {{MetaCat|country|widgets}}. Widgets is not a sort criterion for this category, so it can be removed.

Administrators: Please do not delete this category even if it is empty! This category may be empty occasionally or even most of the time.
