This category contains scans of the Mikraot Gedolot (the "Rabbinic Bible" or the "Great Bible") in its various classic editions. Each volume of the Mikraot Gedolot classically contains the vocalized masoretic text surrounded by masoretic notes, Aramaic Targum, and a selection of medieval Jewish commentaries.

Files names are as follows:

  • MG = Mikraot Gedolot
  • Date of publication
  • Capital letter (following dash) = Volume number (A, B, C, etc.)
  • Arabic numeral (following volume number before hyphen) = File number within the volume, for volumes containing a number of biblical books and which have been subdivided into several files (usually one book per file).
  • The name of the biblical book in Hebrew.

For example: File:MG1618-A1-Bereshit.pdf

  • MG = Mikraot Gedolot
  • 1618 = date of publication for this edition
  • A1 = First volume, first file (usually the first biblical book in the volume)
  • Bereshit = name of first biblical book within the volume (Bereshit=Genesis)

As more editions are added in the future, it may eventually be useful to relist files within subcategories by book (e.g. "Mikraot Gedolot Bereshit" as a subcategory of "Mikraot Gedolot" where the former contains various editions of Bereshit).

[edit]

Several full, classic editions of the Mikra'ot Gedolot are available at Internet Archive. These are high-quality scans which have been uploaded to allow convenient browsing from right-to-left. They may also be downloaded in part or in whole in numerous formats, which makes them potentially useful for Wikimedia projects. These editions include:

  1. Mikra'ot Gedolot, First Rabbinic Bible (Venice, 1518)
  2. Mikra'ot Gedolot, Second Rabbinic Bible (Venice, 1525)
  3. Mikra'ot Gedolot, Torah (Vienna, 1859)
  4. Mikra'ot Gedolot (Warsaw, 1874-1885)
