A ship can change name and flag state through time, but the IMO number remains the same through the hull's entire lifetime. As a result, it can be useful to identify a ship by using the IMO number.
- Miranda Guinness was the last ship built by Charles Hill & Son of Albion Yard, Bristol and also the worlds first purpose built beer tanker. Launched on 9th July 1976. There is a nice model of her in the Bristol Industrial Museum.
