Morgiana or "Morgana" is a clever slave girl from Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Through her quick wittedness she saves Ali's life many times and eventually kills his worst enemy, the leader of the Forty Thieves. As reward, Ali frees her and Morgiana marries Ali's son.

In book illustrations Morgiana is frequently depicted pooring boiling oil into a jar or dancing while holding a dagger: "Morgiana rose up and showed her perfect art and pleased them vastly with graceful steps and sportive motion; and suddenly drawing the poniard from her belt she brandished it and paced from side to side, a spectacle which pleased them most of all" (from Richard Burton's "The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night"). After the dance she stabs to death the last of the forty thieves.
