Note: The term Old Cairo (Misr al-Qadima) is used in particular for the district containing many old Coptic sites, the Roman fortress, other christian churches, the Coptic Museum, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue. Not to be confused with the rest of medieval/historic/"Islamic" Cairo, which is located to the northeast; these two sites are related but somewhat distinct. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Historic Cairo", which also includes what is typically referred to as "Islamic Cairo".
