English: Old Iseya Pawnshop, a historic building in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, that once housed a pawnshop frequented by 19th-century writer Ichiyo Higuchi. From 1890 to 1893, she lived nearby in a rented house with her mother and younger sister often going to pawnshop to borrow money. Established in 1860, the Iseya pawnshop conducted its business out of a two-story wooden house. The building is considered a historical site for its features reflecting a typical merchant home in the Edo period (1603-1867). Higuchi often wrote in her diary that she "rushed to Iseya."
