English: The Palermo Stone is the largest fragment of a slab that originally measured approximately 2x1 metres. Other fragments are kept at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and one at the Petrie Museum in London. It contains a list of predynastic rulers and the first five dynasties, up to around 2300 BC. The height of the Nile flood is recorded for each year. The stele was most likely copied during the New Kingdom from an ancient papyrus. It is believed to have been found in Memphis and came to the Museum of Palermo at the end of the 19th century as a donation from the collector Ferdinando Gaudiano.
