English: Partitions are geographical redistributions of land along new boundaries. Dividing up a country may happen for various reasons, among them: Dynastic (heirs distributing the lands of the previous ruler, etc.); military (area concessions after a lost war, etc.); political (revolutions; people agree to split up the area, etc.). The results of a partition may be new independent countries, or other parties taking control over the area that was partitioned off.
Deutsch: Eine Landesteilung ist eine geographische Umverteilung eines Landes entlang neu festgelegter Grenzen. Dies kann verschiedene Ursachen haben, dazu gehören dynastische Gründe (Erben verteilen das Land des vorherigen Herrschers, etc.), militärische Gründe (Gebietsabtretungen nach einem verlorenen Krieg, etc.) und politische Gründe (Revolutionen; Beschlüsse der Bevölkerung, etc.) Das Ergebnis einer Landesteilung können neue unabhängige Staaten sein, oder auch die Inbesitznahme des abgetrennten Landes durch die neuen Besitzer.
