The whole work was published in Danzica in 1690, after his death, by the second wife of Hevelius, Catherina Elisabeth Koopman.
The nine chapters of the first volume, besides the title and opening pages of introduction and dedications, contain information relating to the discoveries of Hevelius and his considerations of various kinds, about the constellations described in subsequent volumes. Hevelius also describes the motion of the Moon and the Sun's apparent, as well as the planets of the solar system, inserting tables of ascension, declination, and other astronomical data he studied.

L'intera opera fu pubblicata a Danzica nel 1690, postumo, dalla seconda moglie di Hevelius, Catherina Elisabeth Koopman.
I nove capitoli del primo volume, oltre al frontespizio e alle pagine iniziali d'introduzione e dediche, contengono informazioni relative alle scoperte di Hevelius e sue considerazioni, di vario genere, riguardanti le costellazioni descritte nei volumi successivi. Hevelius descrive, inoltre, il moto della Luna e quello apparente del Sole, oltre che dei pianeti del sistema solare, inserendo tabelle di ascensione, declinazione e altri dati astronomici da lui studiati.
