English: A prom is a formal social event — usually a dance — usually for students in the last two years of high school, and usually near the end of the school year. Prom originated in the United States.
Français : Au Canada et aux États-Unis, un bal de finissants (prom en anglais) est un bal de danse qui se tient à la fin d’une année scolaire. Au Royaume-Uni, le terme prom fait référence à la saison des concerts ou The Prom, qui ont lieu entre juillet et septembre depuis 1895 et qui est de nos jours diffusé sur la BBC. Au Canada anglais, le terme grad ou formal est plus communément utilisé pour cet événement pour le remise de diplôme de l’école secondaire ou du premier cycle du secondaire.
