Quakers, or members of the Religious Society of Friends, were among the early settlers of New Jersey, arriving well before William Penn started the colony of Pennsylvania as a Quaker "holy experiment." Many historic Friend's meeting houses in new Jersey are on the National Register of Historic Places.
