The Société Générale Ghana Limited (official name since 26th of March, 2013) is a bank in Ghana which belongs to the French bank Socété Générale by a majority. The enterprise was founded on the 7th of February, 1975 with the name Security Guarantee Trust Limited as wholly-owned subsidiary of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) of Ghana. On the 24th of February, 1976, the name of the firm was changed to Social Security Bank Ltd. and on the 17th of September, 1976 one obtained the official authorization as bank. On the 3rd of May, 1994 fusioned the bank with the former National Savings and Credit Bank to the new Social Security Bank Limited (SSB Ltd.). The bank started the initial public offering (IPO) in October 1995. In March 2003, the French Société Générale got greatest shareholder and on the 31st of March, 2004 the bank name was changed to Société Générale - Social Security Bank Limited (SG-SSB Ltd.) until to the 26th of March, 2013 as the bank was renamed to Société Générale Ghana Limited.
