Soumak is a weaving technique practised by tribes in Anatolia, the Caucasus, Iran and Baluchistan. It is a tapestry technique in which weft threads are wrapped, usually forwards over 4 warp threads and back over 2. The result is a thicker weave than Kilim, with a flat decorative front and a ragged reverse side.
