English: Spandrels are the space between two arches, or between an arch and its rectangular enclosure. The architectural element is often used as a place for building ornamentation. Islamic arches and Iwans are traditional locations of spandrels clad in Islamic tiles and mosaics. For a similar architectural element of domes, see Category:Pendentives.
