English: In 1540, Antonio Salamanca and Antonio Lafreri started production of prints of the works of art depicting antiquities in Rome. The prints were sold to tourists and collectors and were available as albums. In 1573, Lafreri commissioned a title page for the prints, Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae. After Lafreri's death, two-third of the existing copper plates went to the Duchetti family (Claudio and Stefano), while another third was distributed among several publishers.
