English: The Vale of Tempe ( modern Greek: Témpi), celebrated by Greek poets as a favorite haunt of Apollo and the Muses, is the ancient name of a gorge in northern Thessaly, Greece, located between Olympus to the north and Ossa to the south. The valley is 10 kilometers long and as narrow as 25 meters in places, with cliffs nearly 500 meters high, and through it flows the Pineios River on its way to the Aegean Sea. On the right bank of the Pineios sat a temple to Apollo, near which the laurels used to crown the victorious in the Pythian Games were gathered. The Vale of Tempe also was home for a time to Aristaeus, son of Apollo and Cyrene, and it was here that he chased Eurydice, wife of Orpheus, who, in her flight, was bitten by a serpent and died. In modern times the vale retained a mystic significance in art and literature. A step was taken to preserve it with the creation of the Natura 2000 protected area, Aisthetico Dasos Koiladas Tempon ("Scenic Forest of Tempe Valley.")

Català: Tempe (grec Τέμπη) fou una famosa vall al nord-est de Tessàlia entre els monts Olimp i Ossa, pel qual passava el riu Peneu fins arribar a la mar. Estava defensat per quatre fortaleses: Gonnos, Condylon, Carax i Tempe. Modernament es va anomenar Lykóstomo (Boca del Llop)

Deutsch: Tempe (, auch Tempi, Tembi) heißt das steile Durchbruchstal des Flusses Peneios zwischen Olymp- und Ossa-Gebirge in der griechischen Landschaft Thessalien. Seine Länge beträgt etwa 8 km. An seiner engsten Stelle ist das Tal nur 40 Meter breit.

Stanowi naturalna granicę między Macedonią a Tessalią. Jej długość to prawie 10km; w najwęższym miejscu ma 25m, zaś jej brzegi stanowią urwiska sięgające 500 metrów wysokości. Wysokie brzegi doliny porastają stare plantany i bujna roślinność.

Svenska: Tempedalen (modern grekiska: Témpi) är det antika namnet på en klyfta i norra Thessalien i Grekland mellan berget Olympos i norr och berget Ossa i söder. De antika grekiska poeterna hyllade den som Apollons och musernas favorithemvist. Dalen är 10 kilometer lång och så smal som 25 meter på vissa platser, med klippor, som är nästan 500 meter höga. Genom dalen flyter floden Pineios på väg mot Egeiska havet. På Pineios högra strand stod en gång ett Apollotempel, alldeles intill den plats, där man samlade in lagrar åt segrarna i de pythiska spelen. För en tid var dalen också hemvist för Apollons och Cyrenes son Aristaios och det var här som han jagade Orfeus hustru Eurydike, som då blev biten av en orm och dog. På 1200-talet e.Kr. byggdes en kyrka i dalen, helgad åt S:t Aghia Paraskevi.
