The following Glagolitic letters have two major stylistic variants, rounded and squared (their encoding is unified in UCS standards):
the rounded variant is the historical original one and the most widespread (via the Old Bulgarian empire) even if it gradually fell into disuse when the Cyrillic script was later developed (the rounded variant is the default one shown for their representative glyphs in UCS standard charts);
the squared variant was derived in Croatia from the thirteenth century and has survived there up to the beginning of twentieth century, as a core part of the Croatian culture (notably for monumental inscriptions) and in the local Catholic liturgy, with revival efforts made today for its use in public displays.
There are a few documents written in a style intermediate between the two; within both major variants, some letters also have additional alternative shapes (notably with typographic serif styles used in decorative titling and displays).
