English: The iron barque Victoria Cross was built in 1863 by Pile at Hartlepool for Coupland Bros., Liverpool. Registered at 669 tons gross & net, she measured 168 ft (51.2 m) in length with a 28 ft (8.5 m) beam and originally sported a full ship-rig before being cut down to a barque to save on crewing costs. After service with several owners, she disappears from record in the mid-1880s. 1889 sold to J.H.Nicolai, Brake, Germany and renamed Auguste. Wrecked c. 1900 at Atherfield Lodge, Isle of Wight.
