Italiano: Il Valdismo, i cui fedeli sono chiamati Valdesi, è stato un movimento pauperistico medievale nato nell'ultimo quarto del XII secolo a seguito degli insegnamenti di Valdo di Lione (Lione, 1140 – 1206 circa) come risposta alla corruzione dell'epoca della Chiesa di Roma. Scomunicati nel 1184, i Valdesi aderirono nel 1532 alla riforma protestante, divenendo una confessione di matrice calvinista. Oggetto per secoli di dure persecuzioni, essi si ritirarono nelle zone alpine piemontesi, nelle cosiddette valli valdesi, dove ancora oggi rappresentano la maggioranza confessionale. Il loro centro è a Torre Pellice (TO) dove ogni anno nell'ultima settimana di agosto, i deputati delle chiese locali ed i pastori si riuniscono per dare luogo al "Sinodo Valdese", massimo momento assembleare e decisionale nella vita delle chiese valdesi.
Deutsch: Die Waldenser waren eine christliche Armenbewegung im Mittelalter, die im letzten Viertel des 12. Jahrhunderts nach den Lehren von Petrus Valdes (Lyon, ca. 1140–1206) als Reaktion auf die Korruption in der römischen Kirche entstand. Jahrhundertelang schwerer Verfolgung ausgesetzt, zogen sie sich in die Alpenregionen Piedmonts zurück, die sogenannten Waldensertäler. 1184 exkommuniziert, schlossen sich die Waldenser 1532 der Reformation an und wurden eine calvinistische Glaubensgemeinschaft. Ihr Zentrum befindet sich in Torre Pellice (Turin), wo sich jedes Jahr in der letzten Augustwoche die Vertreter der örtlichen Kirchen und Pastoren zur „Waldenser-Synode“ versammeln – der höchsten Versammlung im Leben der Waldenser-Gemeinden.
