The white-background pottery occured in Egypt in the First Intermediate Period, early Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom and Late Period. The wares were decorated in various colours on a white background. The decoration usually consists of elaborate offering scenes, but also representation of papyrus thicket with birds and butterflies.
