Wigtownshire is a former shire county of Scotland which was created by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889 and abolished for local government purposes by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973; its functions remain as a registration county, as a Lieutenancy area and by certain local organisations. It now comprises part of the Council Region of Dumfries and Galloway.
