English: A wind instrument is a musical instrument that contains some type of resonator (usually a tube), in which a column of air is set into vibration by the player blowing into (or over) a mouthpiece set at or near the end of the resonator. The pitch of the vibration is determined by the length of the tube and by manual modifications of the effective length of the vibrating column of air. In the case of some wind instruments, sound is produced by blowing through a reed; others require buzzing into a metal mouthpiece. A pipe organ is a wind instrument as well as a keyboard instrument.

Nederlands: Een blaasinstrument is een muziekinstrument met een of ander type resonator (veelal in de vorm van een buis), waarin de luchtkolom door de bespeler in trilling wordt gebracht door in of over een mondgat aan of nabij het eind van de resonator te blazen. De toonhoogte (frequentie) van de trilling wordt bepaald door de lengte van de resonator en het handmatig veranderen van de effectieve lengte van de trillende luchtkolom. De voornaamste groepen blaasinstrumenten zijn de houtblaasinstrumenten en de koperblaasinstrumenten. Een pijporgel is enerzijds qua toonvorming een blaasinstrument, en anderzijds behoort het tot de toetsinstrumenten op grond van de bediening door middel van klavieren.
