Wolseley was founded by Herbert Austin, owned by Vickers.

Vickers appointed Wolseley's London sales manager, John Davenport Siddeley, general manager of Wolseley when Austin left in 1905 to start his own Austin Motor Company.

Without authority from Vickers Siddeley briefly added his own name to the front of Wolseley cars.

Vickers dismissed Siddeley in early 1909 but Wolseley-Siddeley remained on the cars until 1911.
